Police are holding a 19-year-old man suspected of murdering his girlfriend while they were travelling together in Taiwan last month.

The girlfriend's mother filed a report with the authorities after the man returned to Hong Kong alone and she remained missing.

On Tuesday, officers arrested the man for theft, when he allegedly withdrew money using the woman's bank cards.

Taiwanese reports claim the man has admitted to her murder and local authorities have found her body near a metro station in New Taipei.
