Authorities in Guangzhou say a Hong Kong man will have to restart his 14-day quarantine period after he escaped from his hotel by pretending to be a medical officer.

Guangzhou police say the man began his quarantine on April 1, after testing negative for the coronavirus.

But on Friday, he allegedly told officers that he was a medic and left via a back-door.

He was intercepted several hours later and taken back to the hotel.
