A work report, delivered on Tuesday said the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), the nation's top legislature, has ensured the full implementation of the Constitution and upheld its authority and sanctity during its five-year term.

Delivering the work report, the country’s top legislator Li Zhanshu said the NPC Standing Committee has also set a plan for the legislative work this year.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the 13th NPC, told a meeting that the NPC Standing Committee will further improve institutions and procedures for constitutional review.

It will also improve the legal system for the socialist market economy, and expedite work to create laws that improve the people's well-being, promote scientific, technological, social, and cultural progress, and protect the environment.

The report also reviewed the legislative work conducted over the past five years, saying the national legislature formulated 47 laws and conducted 111 rounds of revision to existing laws.

In his speech, Li urged the NPC to continue to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.

Li urged the NPC to step up to the front lines of any legal struggle without the slightest hesitation.

The annual session of the NPC will run through March 13. (Xinhua)
