  • Confirmed Covid cases on the mainland level out

Most of the latest Covid-19 cases across the border were again reported from Shanghai.

Health authorities recorded a total of 26,355 new infections on the mainland in the past day. That compared with a little more than 25,000 the day before.

The National Health Commission said there were 25,037 local asymptomatic infections on Saturday, all but around a thousand of which are from Shanghai.

Another 1,006 patients from the financial hub showed symptoms, nine fewer than the day before.

Shanghai's authorities said they have strengthened supplies for foodstuff, medication and baby products, saying this is a key point of emphasis.

On Saturday, they said they will soon begin lifting a lockdown in communities that do not report any positive cases within 14 days.

Health officials reported a total of 1,318 new symptomatic cases on the mainland, down 16 from the day before.

They reported no new deaths, leaving the toll unchanged at 4,638. (Additional reporting from Xinhua, AP)
