China Slams Australia Over Olympics Boycott

China on Wednesday accused Australia of "political posturing and selfish games" after Canberra announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics over human rights concerns.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin slammed Australia for "blindly following" the US in announcing a boycott, adding that "whether they come or not, nobody cares."

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said earlier on Wednesday that Australia will not send officials to February's Winter Olympics.

"Australia will not step back from the strong position we've had standing up for Australia's interests and obviously it is of no surprise that we wouldn't be sending Australian officials to those Games," Morrison said.

The decision, which stopped short of preventing athletes from attending the 2022 Olympics, comes a day after the US announced its diplomatic boycott. (AFP)
