  • Annual session of CPPCC opens

The annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Beijing on Saturday, with chairman Wang Yang encouraging members from Hong Kong to 'make their voices heard' in promoting the national security law.

Delivering his final work report, Wang also called on delegates to come up with ways to improve the city’s electoral system, and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area.

“In order to build up the capability of people loving the country, and loving Hong Kong and Macau, we also encourage members from Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR to make their voice heard in terms of the Hong Kong national security act, and improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong SAR,” he said.

Wang emphasised that the nation has faced unprecedented challenges in the past five years, and that Beijing wants to build friendly diplomatic ties with foreign countries.

He also said the CPPCC shall continue to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress by strengthening training for newcomers to the advisory body.

President Xi Jinping and other party leaders also attended the opening of the country’s top political advisory body at the Great Hall of the People.
