Police have defended themselves against criticism over their investigations into the suspected gangster attack at Yuen Long MTR that took place one month ago, saying they need more time to collect evidence.
Nearly 50 people were injured as a mob of white T-shirt wearing men ran beserk in the station, hitting out indiscriminately with sticks and other weapons. Police have arrested 28 people, but no charges have been laid so far.
Many people have questioned why no-one has been charged over the attack, when protesters accused of assault in unrelated incidents have been charged within a few days.
Minnie Li, who teaches social science at the Education University, joined a screening outside the MTR station on Wednesday night that showed documentaries on the attacks.
She said "It's one month after the incident and they've done nothing about it. I'm so disappointed at them and also have lost my trust in the Hong Kong police.
"I don't think they can - or are willing to - protect us."
At a news briefing, Senior Superintendent Steve Li from the Organised Crime and Triad said: "For the Yuen Long incident we definitely need more time to secure more evidence to make the case have a higher chance to be prosecuted in the courts."
He said they had taken advice from the Department Of Justice, who told them stronger evidence was needed for the cases to be taken to court with the appropriate charge.
