  • Year of the Pig offers mixed fortunes for SAR

Rural leader Kenneth Lau has drawn a fortune stick for the city of Hong Kong – but it turned out to be a modest one.

It's traditional for the leader of the Heung Yee Kuk, representing indigenous villagers, to seek a blessing for the city on the second day of every Lunar New Year.

This year, Lau drew stick number 86 at the Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin.

This is interpreted as signifying that people have to be cautious whenever they're on the move, and it doesn't augur well for profits either.

Lau isn't too worried, saying that it means there's a better future for Hong Kong – if people support the government and avoid disputes.

He added that although the trade war between China and US is still going on, the SAR can weather the storm with prudent financial management.
