A state-owned newspaper has expressed confidence in Hong Kong’s future, noting that the SAR has always been in the heart of President Xi Jinping.
In an article published on Tuesday, People’s Daily said Xi had made numerous speeches about the city’s development and had paid it many visits over the years, and he knows it like the back of his hand.
It said the state leader always cares about Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, as well as Hong Kong people’s well-being.
The article quoted a speech Xi made on December 31, 2019 in which he wished Hong Kong and its people well.
It added that with the strong backing of the motherland, the central government and people on the mainland, as well as the experience and development it garnered over the past 25 years, and the hard work and unity of the SAR government and people from all walks of life, One Country, Two Systems will “definitely enter a new chapter, and Hong Kong will surely achieve new glory”.
