Bomb disposal officers performed a controlled explosion on part of a World War Two shell found in the south of Hong Kong Island on Saturday.
A hiker spotted the 30-centimetre head of the British mortar shell in Tai Tam Country Park around 1pm, and reported it to the authorities.
Disposal officers closed the surrounding area to the public while they carried out the controlled detonation at 5pm. It has since been reopened.
Officers have had to deal with several pieces of of war-era ordnance in recent months.
In January, two large-scale evacuations were carried out in Wan Chai following the discovery of world War Two bombs at the Sha Tin-Central MTR Line project.
It took disposal officers about a day each to remove the explosives from the 1000-pound (450kg) bombs, which had been dropped by the US air force during their attacks on Japanese forces.
