  • Woman arrested over death of young girl

Police on Sunday said they had opened a murder investigation after the death of a 19-month-old girl in North Point.

Officers said at around 9.30pm on Saturday they received a report that the girl and a woman had collapsed inside a flat on King's Road.

The child was found lying on a bed with neck injuries and is thought to have been strangled.

A 24-year-old woman at the flat also had neck injuries and was taken to hospital in a conscious state, police said.

The woman has been detained for further enquiries, a police statement said, adding that suicide notes and plastic straps were seized from the scene.
