Chairman YK Pang said in view of expected “unforeseen circumstances” in the coming weeks, it would be challenging to ensure the smooth running of the two events.
In a statement, the board said the routes for the Hong Kong Cyclothon covered a number of major roads, tunnels and bridges, and if protests took place prior to the event, those roads may not be cleared in time.
Regarding the Wine & Dine Festival, the HKTB said there have been frequent protests near the event venue at the Central Harbourfront. Should there be any conflict in the area, it would be very difficult to ensure the safety of participants, the HKTB said.
The board apologised for the inconvenience caused by the cancellations, saying a full refund will be offered to the participants of the two events.
