Hundreds of people, many of them white-collar workers, took part in a lunch-hour protest march in Central district, blaming the police of using excessive force.
The protesters chanted slogans like “five demands, not one less!” as they gathered at Chater Garden and started an unannounced march in the area. Many of the slogans were directed at the police, with some marchers calling for disbanding of the force.
Some of the marchers said they came out to protest against the police shooting of a student on Tuesday. Many of them wore black clothes and a majority of them put on face masks as they started the march.
One participant, a 25-year-old lawyer who gave her name as Chan, said she came out to protest against the shooting of a student on Tuesday.
It is a moment that we put the society before our personal interest. I understand the risk in participating in this march and I am [still] here today. I think that says lot," she said.
Some people occupied parts of the Des Voeux Road while another group set up roadblocks in Pedder Street.
A large group of protesters rallied at an open area next to Grand Millennium Plaza in Sheung Wan, saying they do not accept the "lies told by the police and the government".
The group also sang the Glory to Hong Kong song, which has become the anthem of the protesters.
