WeLab, a Hong Kong fintech platform, and Google have announced a partnership focused on applying AI across WeLab’s operations and financial services.

The collaboration aims to support WeLab’s goal of providing AI-driven financial solutions to 500 million users by 2032.

Under the partnership, WeLab will use Google’s AI models and tools to enhance operational efficiency, product design, and marketing.

The company will also rely on Google Cloud infrastructure to support its regional growth strategy and expansion into new markets.

WeLab has previously implemented Google Cloud in Indonesia, enabling rapid scaling with attention to performance, compliance, and security.

“By partnering with Google, we can leverage its advanced AI and agentic capabilities to accelerate adoption, explore new use cases, and deploy tools faster across our business, empowering our teams to focus on higher-value analytical and creative work,”

said Simon Loong, Founder and Group CEO of WeLab.

The partnership includes the development of AI agents using Google Cloud’s capabilities.

WeLab will introduce an internal AI Investment Research Agent, which draws insights from external data sources and WeLab’s internal datasets, built with Gemini models on Vertex AI and Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK).

WeLab also plans to integrate AI into customer-facing services, including foreign exchange, lending, and wealth management.

This includes AI agents designed to provide customers with personalised financial insights and recommendations, aiming to make high-quality financial research more broadly accessible.

In marketing, WeLab has begun using AI to improve ad targeting and campaign relevance.

Its subsidiary, WeLend, recently launched a TV commercial entirely generated by AI using Google’s Gemini and Veo models on Vertex AI. AI is also being used to analyse market trends and audience data in real time.

The partnership includes training and support for WeLab employees to develop AI, data, and security skills through workshops, hackathons, and other initiatives.
