A group of volunteers, responding to an online call, turned up at Sham Shui Po MTR station on Monday morning to get rid of what they said was tear gas residue.
Police fired several canisters of tear gas in the area on Thursday, and many people in the station complained they were affected by it as the gas had seeped in.
The volunteer cleaners said they hope the MTR Corporation could use better ways to disinfect stations that they described as "contaminated". The authorities should use industrial cleaning equipment and hire a third-party to test the results, they said.
One volunteer cleaner surnamed Chan said he hopes the railway company could put pressure on the government and the police as many citizens fear the inappropriate use of force in and around MTR stations.
Some volunteers also spent last Friday morning cleaning up Kwai Fong MTR station, where police had fired tear gas into, because they weren't convinced the station had been thoroughly disinfected.
