Michael Tien speaks to RTHK's Janice Wong
A member of Legco's transport panel on Monday called for the better use of technology for the inspection of infrastructure in Hong Kong.
Michael Tien was commenting on the snapping of a cable on the cross-border Shenzhen Bay Bridge, which was reported over the weekend.
Tien said that although the breakage was unusual, it should pose no safety concerns.
"My main concern is why did we not have a better inspection system using technology to predict the condition of the cable inside the protective grout. The Highways Department has confirmed with me they have not employed such methodology," he said.
The lawmaker told RTHK's Janice Wong that the bridge's design was aimed at keeping the structure safe even if one cable is broken.
