The Observatory lowered all tropical cyclone signals on Saturday morning, as Typhoon Saudel moved further away from the city.

The Strong Monsoon Signal replaced the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at just after 9am, with Saudel centred about 500 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong.

However, the Education Bureau said kindergarten classes – including afternoon classes – schools for children with physical disabilities, and schools for children with intellectual disabilities would remain suspended.

Typhoon Saudel was forecast to move west across the South China Sea towards Hainan Island and central Vietnam.

Forecasters however warned that strong winds, with mean speeds exceeding 30 kilometres per hour, were still expected.

The Observatory advised people to take precautions against strong gusty winds, for the public to stay away from the shoreline and not engage in water sports.

The Strong Wind Signal No. 3 had been in effect since just after midnight on Friday.
