The police have arrested a 69-year-old man after an Eastern district councillor and her assistant were allegedly attacked while they were filming a group of people they suspected were violating restrictions on gathering during the coronavirus outbreak.

The incident happened late on Monday night in Chai Wan’s Hing Man estate.

According to photos and videos uploaded by councillor Tse Miu-yee, a group of six people were seen playing card games without wearing face masks. Security guards were heard telling them that gatherings of more than four people are banned at present.

She later wrote on social media that she is okay now, and that those involved in the incident must be brought to justice.

Detectives from Chai Wan division were investigating.
