Health authorities on Sunday confirmed two new local Covid-19 infections – both connected to a previous infection at a Tseung Kwan O apartment block. Officials also confirmed four imported cases and fewer than 10 preliminary positives.

The two locally-infected patients – a 60-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman – live in block four of La Cite Noble, where mandatory tests had been ordered earlier after a resident was confirmed with the coronavirus. Neither of the two new patients have exhibited any symptoms of illness.

Of the four imported cases, three had recently arrived from Indonesia, and one from the Philippines.

Two of the cases were detected on arrival, while one Indonesian woman tested positive while undergoing quarantine at the Ramada Hong Kong Grand hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

That’s the same hotel where authorities suspect a mutated variant of the coronavirus may have been transmitted among quarantined guests, leading to Hong Kong’s first local transmission of a Covid variant with the N501Y mutation.

The woman from the Philippines who tested positive had been staying at the Dorsett hotel in Mong Kok.

Authorities last week slapped a two-week flight ban on India, Pakistan and the Philippines amid a surge in coronavirus cases in those countries.
