Customs officers arrested two men on Friday for allegedly using an internet broadcasting platform to illegally re-broadcast live World Cup coverage from pay TV.
Authorities say the anti-piracy operation took place after an in-depth investigation and with the assistance of the copyright owner.
The men, aged 21 and 60, were arrested in Tung Chung; computer equipment worth about HK$20,000 was also seized. The investigation is continuing, and the men have been released on bail.
Customs officials say they’ll continue to take stringent enforcement action against copyright infringement during the World Cup.
Persons who provide others with devices or services for the purpose of circumventing legitimate businesses face a fine of HK$500,000 and four years imprisonment.
