A second English-language news outlet in Hong Kong has been caught up in the coronavirus outbreak, with one of TVB's English-language sub-editors sent into isolation by health authorities after he came into contact with a patient.

The sub-editor, a Canadian who works on the Pearl News team, reportedly met up with a freelance South China Morning Post journalist at the newspaper's Times Square office last Friday, before she was diagnosed with Covid-19. An earlier report incorrectly said they met in Lan Kwai Fong.

The SCMP journalist's diagnosis forced the temporary closure of the newspaper's Causeway Bay headquarters and an office in Wong Chuk Hang.

The TVB employee continued to attend work this week. TVB says it's arranging tests on 13 staff who are considered to be close contacts of the sub-editor at private hospitals.

The news came on Friday, the day that Hong Kong reported 48 new cases of the coronavirus, its highest daily total since the outbreak began.
