Health officials moved in at residential block in Tung Chung and Kwai Chung on Saturday night for overnight lockdown and testing operations, after residents tested preliminary positive for a mutant strain of Covid-19.
Residents of Tower 16 at Crystal Cove, Caribbean Coast, will have to stay home except when undergoing testing after a number of residents gave positive tests. Officials hope to have the tests completed by 1am and allow residents who test negative to leave by about 7am.
People who spent two hours or more in the building between January 15 and Saturday must also take tests. A nursery in the building and the adjacent Tower 15 are excluded from the testing requirement.
In Kwai Chung, Fu Wing House and Fu Wah House on the Tai Wo Hau Estate are subject to a lockdown after a resident tested preliminary positive for a mutant strain. Officials hope to complete testing by 2am and finish the exercise at about 7am.
Meanwhile, the government has ordered residents of Ching Fai House on the Tsz Ching Estate to undergo testing following the discovery of the virus in sewage samples from the building.
