Police have arrested 39 people on suspicion of trafficking dangerous drugs, after a raid on an upstairs bar in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Officers said they seized HK$120,000 worth of drugs, including ketamine, cocaine and ecstasy, much of it hidden inside packets of tea and Chinese medicine.

They said they approached the bar in Prat Avenue from different directions, so as not to alert any lookouts. When they got there, staff wouldn't open the door, so they smashed it down.

The bar was licensed but packed beyond capacity, the police said. They said they believed most of the customers had triad links and were using the venue to recruit new members.

Of the 39 people arrested, six were under 18.

Police said they raided the same bar last year, also over drug trafficking.
