Traffic in the new tunnel linking Tuen Mun and Chek Lap Kok was disrupted on Friday afternoon after a truck flipped on its side, partially blocking access to a roundabout near Tuen Mun.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The accident, which happened around noon, is the second incident at the week-old tunnel in two days.

Highways Department officials announced on Thursday that an emergency entrance to a maintenance tunnel had burst open on Wednesday night, leaving a gap in the road. Emergency checks showed broken parts in the door.

The contractor has been asked to investigate.

The new route opened on Sunday, cutting journey times between the northern New Territories and the airport by about 20 minutes. It also serves the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
