  • 'Trick or treat, but don't break the rules' - police

The authorities have warned that social distancing rules still apply - even on Halloween.

They say they'll be strictly enforcing social distancing restrictions on Saturday night, noting that they prosecuted a number of bar owners for letting customers flout the rules on Friday night.

During inspections in the Central district, the police found five bars in Lan Kwai Fong were breaching the infection control regulations, with some still operating after the 2am curfew.

Forty-five customers of the bars in question were fined, with the five bar owners prosecuted.

Food and environmental hygiene department officials and the police also inspected 89 bars and restaurants in the Wan Chai, Yau Tsim Mong and Central and Western districts.

They prosecuted six business operators for breaking the rules, mainly over how far their tables were spaced apart and how many customers could be seated at each table.

Officers also handed out leaftlets to revellers and issued dozens of verbal warnings.

"The enforcement actions on the Halloween Day will be more forceful that those on its eve," authorities said.
