RTHK has learnt that three customs officers were among the 370 or so people arrested during Wednesday's pro-democracy protests.

The officers will be suspended from duty. They were not among those detained on Wednesday under the national security law.

A customs department spokesman said Commissioner Hermes Tang is furious about the arrests.

He stressed all staff must abide by the law and his department fully supports the government's efforts to stop the violence.

Tang added they will follow up on the matter.

Violence had erupted in parts of Hong Kong Island as police and protesters clashed a day after Beijing implemented a new national security law in the SAR.

Police had said among the arrested, 10 were held on suspicion of breaching the new law.
