  • Three arrested for manhandling protest snapper

Superintendent Chan Tsz-leung

The police on Monday arrested two men and one woman, aged between 23 and 31, for manhandling a female bystander in Mong Kok following the mass protest in Tsim Sha Tsui on July 7.

Officers said the victim was simply walking past the area when she took photos of the surrounding scenes out of curiosity.

However, she was soon surrounded and manhandled by around a dozen protesters, who accused her of being an undercover police officer and suspected she had taken photos of them at close range.

Superintendent Chan Tsz-leung stressed the victim wasn't a police officer, adding she was injured by the protesters. He added that the investigation was ongoing and there may be further arrests.

The three people were arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, assault, illegal assembly and indecent assault.
