Large crowds have gathered in different areas across Hong Kong on Friday night to usher in the new year.
Thousands attended a countdown concert in West Kowloon, while there were also celebrations on both sides of the harbour.
Some of the revelers told RTHK that 2021 had not been an easy year, and hoped people’s lives would improve in 2022.
“I feel exhausted with a bit of sadness because of Covid-19. A lot of friends left Hong Kong and I don’t know if I will have a chance to see them again,” one university student said.
“We didn’t live very happily in the past year and I hope there'll be more hope in Hong Kong, for example [more] job opportunities. I hope we can have a better life,” another man said.
