Police on Monday said they have arrested a teenager and two men in connection with an attack on an elderly woman during a ‘Sing with You’ protest at a Tin Shui Wai mall last Wednesday.
Superintendent Au Yeung Siu-kong told reporters the victim was taking smartphone footage of the protest that she intended to send to family members, but were soon set upon by a crowd who questioned why she was taking videos there.
Media footage of the incident showed her falling to the ground, as a crowd of people shone bright lights on her and splashed her with liquid from a bottle, before one appeared to kick her in the back of the head.
Au Yeung said the perpetrators had left the scene by the time police arrived, but officers subsequently tracked down three suspects, aged 15-22.
Two of them are said to be unemployed while the other is a student.
Au Yeung said officers are still investigating the case, and more arrests could follow.
