A teenager has been sentenced to 46 months behind bars for hurling petrol bombs at the Kwai Chung police station earlier this year.
Kelvin Chan, who just turned 18, earlier admitted to attempted arson for trying to set the alight parked police vehicles inside the station on January 29.
He had also pleaded guilty at the District Court to another count of possession of items with the intent to destroy or damage property after police seized 11 more petrol bombs from his sub-divided unit.
The court heard that three people carried out the attack.
In sentencing, District Court Judge Amanda Woodcock said although the defendant is young and has had good conduct in the past, his intention to cause damage by setting fire warrants a lengthy sentence.
She called the attack “planned and calculated”, as Chan had taken the time to learn how to make the petrol bombs online and bought the materials.
The judge stressed petrol bombs are a dangerous and unstable weapon that had been used indiscriminately during the protests, as she described the attack as "perpetuating the violence", so a deterrent sentence was necessary.
