Former Democratic Party lawmaker Ted Hui on Saturday said at least five bank accounts belonging to him and his family members have apparently been frozen.
Hui, who earlier announced he is going into exile and is now in England, told RTHK that the banks did not explain why the assets were frozen.
He said several million dollars were involved and it was the family’s life savings, and the banks did not explain why their accounts were no longer functioning.
Hui, a Central and Western district councillor, said earlier in the week that he was going into exile in the UK, after arriving in Denmark.
He had said the new national security law meant he could end up being jailed for decades for simply talking about human rights in Hong Kong.
