Police have charged a 37-year-old primary school teacher with a child pornography offence for allegedly asking young girls to provide him with nude photos and videos of themselves.
The force said on Sunday that the alleged offence came to light in September when a woman found several obscene photographs of her eight-year-old daughter in the child's mobile phone.
Officers said they believe contact was made with the girl on an online game, and she took the photos of herself in exchange for virtual weapons to be used in the game.
The girl is also believed to have carried out indecent acts during a video call.
Police say they think there are at least seven victims and they have recovered around 20 indecent photos and three videos involving underage girls.
The teacher arrested works at a school in Sham Shui Po.
Senior inspector Kwok Sze-wai said there was no evidence so far to suggest that the victims are students at this school.
Kwok urged parents to pay attention to their children’s use of online games and social media, and to remind them to be cautious of strangers they meet online.
The teacher was due to appear before Sha Tin Magistracy on Monday.
