The government has been urged to do more to help those living in sub-divided flats, after an NGO found that the average rental levels of such units are increasing faster than residents' salaries.

The Hong Kong Sub-divided Flats Concerning Platform says that over the past year, rents of sub-divided units went up by around 4.5 percent but workers' wages only increased by 3.8-percent.

The group's spokesman, Steven Wong, said the administration should build more public units and provide more assistance for NGOs that want to provide transitional housing for those waiting for public flats. Otherwise, he said people will have to keep lowering their living standards:
