The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled the Standby Signal No 1 on Friday evening, hours after it downgraded the Strong Wind Signal No 3 it had issued on Thursday lunchtime.
The weathermen said Tropical Depression Ewiniar was about 200 kilometres away from the city as of 6pm on Friday, and its effect on Hong Kong's weather had decreased.
The storm's influence had brought heavy rains on Friday morning, forcing the closure of some schools and causing flooding in some areas.
The observatory, which issued a red storm warning around noon, said some areas of Hong Kong recorded more than 100 millimetres of rain in an hour.
It said things would be calmer now, as Ewiniar gradually weakens.
