Raphael Wong talks to RTHK's Janice Wong

League of Social Democrats vice-chairman, Raphael Wong, said on Friday that in order for the current level of violence to come down, government should take steps to stop institutionalised use of force.

"If the government demand us to stop the violence, I would say the government should have first stopped the institutionalised violence," said Wong.

Speaking a day after his release over the 2014 Occupy protests, Wong said he still stands by non-violent protests, but respects the others who try their own way.

"I insist on non-violent protests. I think this is the good tactics to fight for the democracy and freedom," said Wong. "But I respect others [who] try their own way [in] pursuit of their dream. I respect that."

He said the government should take positive response to the five demands of the protesters to bring normalty and safety back to Hong Kong.

He told RTHK's Janice Wong that granting amnesty is a part of the rule of law and very much within the powers of the Chief Executive.
