  • Stop acts like vandalising graves: Kuk leader

The chairman of the Heung Yee Kuk, Kenneth Lau, has asked people to desist from actions like vandalising graves in the New Territories, as images circulated online purportedly showing a damaged tombstone of rural leader and lawmaker Junius Ho's ancestors.

There were also calls on the internet to target other places like some farms as a retaliation against the mob attack in Yuen Long on Sunday night.

Critics have said rural leaders, including Ho, were behind the Sunday attack.

But Lau said he doesn't know who the white-clad attackers were. He also said he believe the police will bring attackers to justice.

"I trust our police will keep Hong Kong safe," he said.

Meanwhile an online petition calling for the arrest of people involved in Sunday's attack at the Yuen Long MTR station have gathered over 70,000 signatures in under two days.

The statement has laid criticism over the police's slow response that day, as well as a government statement that described the attacks as a congregation of "some people" at the station – which "led to confrontations and injuries".

Teacher Cheung Yui-fai, who helped initiated the online petition, said people are obviously still angry after a press conference given by top officials on Monday. He said the government needs to answer to the demands of anti-extradition protestors.
