Cathy Hsu talks to RTHK's Damon Pang

A tourism scholar said on Thursday that Hongkongers should welcome the government's plan to create a travel bubble with Singapore, saying both places have a good reputation and credibility in terms of Covid-19 testing.

Cathy Hsu, chair professor at Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management, said Singapore is a good partner for Hong Kong to start resuming air travel.

"We have to start somewhere....at least [the two places] can trust each other in terms of the credibility of the tests and the governments' will to control any potential issues," she told RTHK.

"Potential travellers will welcome this....you see fatigue being mentioned all the time now, even the experts. So I think the Hong Kong people will welcome the opportunity [to travel]."

Hsu backed the two governments' plan to have a mechanism in place to suspend travel if the pandemic situation worsens.

She said although she personally would not travel anywhere just yet, she thinks some people are willing to take more risks than others and will be more adventurous about heading overseas.
