Singapore has announced it will reduce mandatory quarantine requirements for people arriving from Hong Kong by a week.
It said that from Friday, people who have stayed in Hong Kong for at least 14 consecutive days can instead do seven days of home quarantine.
"As the situation in Hong Kong has improved, we will reduce the SHN [Stay Home Notice] period from 14 days to 7 days which can be served at the place of residence if suitable,” a statement from the Singapore government said.
Currently, people travelling in the opposite direction are categorised by the SAR government as “low risk”, with arrivals from the country as well as from Australia and New Zealand only having to do 14 days of quarantine at a designated quarantine hotel.
Arrivals from other countries are still required to stay at a designated quarantine hotel for 21 days.
Plans for a “travel bubble” between Hong Kong and Singapore – allowing residents to fly between the two places without needing to quarantine – were shelved in November following a surge in untraceable coronavirus cases.
