  • Shue Yan uni calls for details of student's injury

The privately-funded Shue Yan University on Tuesday issued a request to the police, asking them to provide all necessary information within a week over the case where one of its students suffered serious burns.

The student suffered extensive burns to his back, apparently after the explosion of tear gas canister at a protest site in Causeway Bay where he present as a volunteer first aider on Saturday.

The university's deputy president, Hu Fai-chung, said the university had written to the police commissioner on Monday afternoon, demanding the force to provide information and clarify over the incident within seven days.

The statement did not specify what action the university would take if the information was not made available within that time.

The school asked commissioner Stephen Lo to provide documents and evidence, such as photos or videos taken by officers or other witnesses.

Dozens of students and alumni held a rally on campus on Tuesday afternoon, voicing support for the injured student and urging the university's management to condemn police's alleged brutality.
