  • Short circuit probably caused fatal blaze

Investigations into a deadly blaze at Tai Wai early on Sunday now suggest it was caused by a short circuit.

Firefighters had earlier said they were treating the fire as suspicious.

The fire broke out at Hin Keng Estate shortly after 6am, and took firefighters less than an hour to put out.

They found a burnt body, which is believed to be that of an elderly man, inside a flat on the 21st floor.

Sources said a bedroom caught fire first, and then the entire unit burnt.

Some residents say the alarm bell at Hin Keng Estate did not ring even though they could see smoke and could smell something burning.
