The cluster of Covid-19 infections linked to a Sheung Wan restaurant continued to grow on Saturday, involving 39 diners and two waiters so far.
The Centre for Health Protection's Chuang Shuk-kwan said transmission of the virus inside the Sky Cuisine restaurant was likely widespread, with patrons from over 15 families coming down with the virus.
"The whole third floor has around 29 tables, we haven't been able to trace all of the seating arrangements but we know that some 17 tables were affected. They were rather dispersed, and some tables were near the toilets," she said.
"In one family's case, all eight members have been infected."
Chuang said environmental samples collected in the men's toilet and on an exhaust fan in the women's toilet tested positive for the virus.
She added that one of the infected waiters lives in the Covid-affected Sai Wan Estate, and officials will investigate whether the two outbreaks are related.
Separately, Chuang said four more customers and two workers at Sun Mong Snooker have been infected with Covid, bringing the total number of cases in that cluster to 12.
For the day, health officials reported 284 new infections, including 33 imported cases.
One more Covid patient has died.
