The head of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, Lo Chung-mau, said his hospital will soon provide subsidised medical check-up services for Hong Kong people living in Guangdong, but conceded that patients may be treated by mainland doctors.

Speaking on a radio programme, Lo said SAR officials will soon announce details of a plan to subsidise patients who've previously been receiving treatment from the Hospital Authority, but are unable to return to the city for follow-up appointments due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the hospital will provide those patients with customised services, including arranging Cantonese-speaking medical staff to cater to their needs.

However, he said it is not guaranteed that they'll be attended by Hong Kong doctors.

Lo stressed mainland doctors working at his hospital are highly professional and well-trained, and called on Hong Kong people to let go of the misconception that only drugs produced overseas are safe for use.

"Mainland drugs are of high standards and are perfectly safe too", he said.
