Police said on Tuesday that they had played by the rule book when they conducted a raid at a Sha Tin public housing apartment and arrested three men on suspicion of possessing illegal arms.
This came after Sha Tin District Council member Ricardo Liao posted a Facebook message saying “police officers at the site didn’t respond when a lawyer said she want to meet the arrested” as pictures of the police inside the apartment were circulated widely on social media.
But officers said when they went to the apartment, a suspect refused to open the door and they had to force their way in.
Senior police superintendent Lee Kwai-wah said when a district councillor and a lawyer came knocking, the officers asked the man if he wanted to see them and the man refused.
Police said some of the men arrested after the raid involving 11 units across Hong Kong are war games' enthusiasts and they have all been arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons and ammunition.
The police say items they seized include empty shell cases, guns parts, pepper spray and night vision goggles for military use.
The force noted that it's illegal for people to possess such items without a licence.
