  • Seven new Covid cases as care home outbreak expands

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) on Sunday reported seven coronavirus infections, including four patients linked to earlier cases.

Two of the new patients are linked to a care home for disabled people in Kwai Chung, Home of Treasure, which has seen an outbreak of Covid-19.

The latest cases take the number of people infected at the home to 15.

Dozens of people queued up outside a new, temporary coronavirus testing centre in Kwai Chung before it opened at lunchtime on Sunday.

A student in the queue said one of his family members had been somewhere close to the care home, so they wanted to check if they had caught the virus.

"My mum went to the North Kwai Chung Market to buy food last week. But then we realised that the North Kwai Chung Market is opposite the Home of Treasure. So the whole family came down here for a test to feel better," he said.

Another resident said he wanted to be tested for Covid-19 as he had a meal at the Royal Garden Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, where some staff and guests have come down with the disease.

The centre will be open until Wednesday. It is estimated that 1,000 people can be tested for Covid-19 there each day.

The CHP also reported three imported coronavirus cases, involving people who flew in from the Netherlands, the Philippines and Nepal.

Health officials have warned of a rebound in Covid-19 cases locally, with more people infected via unknown sources in recent days.
