RTHK understands that a senior police officer in the force's new national security department has been placed on leave pending investigation for alleged misconduct.
Sources say Frederic Choi, a senior assistant commissioner who holds the rank of director of national security, is the officer involved.
Police confirmed to RTHK that an officer is on leave pending investigation for misconduct, but declined to offer further details.
The force said it attached great importance to the conduct of police officers and would conduct a fair and impartial investigation in accordance with established procedures.
Choi moved to the national security unit on its formation last year, having first joined the force as an inspector in 1995.
