The government said on Monday that schools will be suspended until January 10 because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

That's one week longer than what was announced earlier.

The suspension covers face-to-face teaching at kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as tutorial schools.

The bureau said arrangements can be made for primary six pupils to return to school for internal assessment relating to Secondary School Places Allocation. Form six students can too return to school for lessons in preparation for public examinations.

But those face-to-face sessions will be limited to half day only and subject to a cap on the number of students.

And schools have to remain open during the class suspension to accommodate pupils who don't have anyone to take care of them at home.
