Radio Television Hong Kong announced on Tuesday evening that it will shortly suspend production of its satirical show
Headliner, as it apologised to anyone offended by the station's output in recent months.
The announcement came just hours after the Communications Authority issued the public broadcaster with a warning for "denigrating and insulting" the police in an episode of the Chinese-language show back in February.
The government then demanded a full review of RTHK's programme production and editorial processes and called for any staff found to have committed "negligence or errors" to be disciplined.
The station said production of Headliner, which has been aired since 1989, will be suspended when the current season comes to an end, and a review will be carried out to study how to develop the show "in an ever changing social environment".
A spokeswoman said RTHK accepts Tuesday's ruling by the Communications Authority and will seriously follow up on the body's findings.
The spokeswoman said the public broadcaster would like to apologise to any police officers or others who have been offended, or who are dissatisfied with the station's output.
