Pro-government lawmakers slammed their rivals on Wednesday for interrupting Chief Executive Carrie Lam's policy address, calling their behaviour "shameful" and "violent".
The ruling camp's convenor Martin Liao “strongly condemned” what he described as the pan-democrats’ “violent actions”, saying they had disrupted the CE’s “most important speech of the year” which all lawmakers have a constitutional duty to receive.
DAB chairwoman Starry Lee echoed Liao’s comments, saying she fears that Legco will not be able to hold meetings in future, while fellow lawmaker Gary Chan said while it’s not new for pan-dems to cause disruptions to Legco proceedings, it was shameful to interrupt a policy address.
He said he hopes they will refrain from interrupting Lam's question and answer session with lawmakers scheduled for Thursday.
The pan-democrats, who met the media earlier, said Lam is not qualified to lead Hong Kong.
The convenor of the pan-dems' camp, Tanya Chan, said Lam has failed to resolve the city's problems and her resignation is the only way forward now.
Claudia Mo said Lam’s attempt to deliver her policy address was a "shame and a sham".
Lam doesn’t understand Hong Kong and is just a "puppet on a string" who is conducting the "biggest sell-out" of the city, Mo alleged.
