A journalist appeared in Kowloon City Court on Monday charged with resisting police officers in the execution of their duties on a day which saw protesters on the streets of Mong Kok.

Ho Ka-yan, 27, who works for the online media outlet Ben Yu Entertainment, was arrested in toilets in Sai Yee Street on May 11.

Her lawyer told the court that the police had used excessive violence during her arrest.

Around the time of the alleged incident Ho told the media that she had witnessed two women being arrested in the toilets and that riot officers had grabbed her camera, pepper-sprayed her and knelt on her neck until she lost consciousness.

No plea was entered.

The magistrate adjourned the case to December 29 and released Ho on bail of HK$2,500.

She was ordered to report to the police every day.
