Damon Pang gives Mike Weeks an update on the recount
A recount is underway for the Kowloon West geographical constituency of the Legislative Council by-election –after results from the three other constituencies were confirmed early on Monday morning.
At last count, DAB candidate Vincent Cheng had edged ahead of his pan-democratic rival Edward Yiu with 93,910 votes to 91,643, with election officials reporting that 90 percent of the votes had been counted.
Yiu told reporters that he had asked for the recount after the initial tally had him losing the election by around 2,000 votes to Cheng.
Earlier, the pan-democrats won two seats, with Gary Fan victorious in New Territories East, and Au Nok-hin winning comfortably in Hong Kong Island. Pro-government candidate Tony Tse won the Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape Functional Constituency.
